How should a university essay be structured?
Most university essays have three parts. The introduction gives context, answers the question in a clear thesis and outlines the route ahead. The main body makes one point per paragraph, each backed by evidence and linked to the question. The conclusion pulls the argument together without adding new material.
Check your module handbook for anything specific, such as required headings or a minimum number of sources. Our guide to writing a strong introduction covers the opening in more detail.
